On February 3rd, there will be a SCARP 60th Anniversary Gala, at the Four Season Hotel, Vancouver. At the event there will be a silent auction taking place to raise money towards a student bursary.

The 10 pieces looked amazing in the ambient light, moving with the light, adding to the already elegant yet, informal atmosphere.

I was very fortunate to meet Maria Azevedo (604-928-3595), a Fine Art Consultant, at Art-Sea. Maria approached me with the prospect of hanging some of my work in Il Nido, and acting as my representative. Maria is a very proficient and innovative person, she already has me thinking outside the box in respect of ways to promote my work.

September is filled with the promise of renaissance. This month provides the perfect backdrop to consider personal, social, environmental and artistic beginnings. A beginning may be as small as the start of a new school year, as influential as the development of a new technology, as common placed as a change in season, as promising as the birth of a child and as monumental as the inauguration of a new political leader.

On The Rise Artist Collective presents Where We Start From, a multi-disciplinary exploration through visual arts of the possibilities inherent in each new beginning. Within the cycle of beginnings and endings, each intersection between old and new offers an opportunity to reflect on the resulting transformation.

Local artists pay tribute to the cyclical nature of new beginnings through integration of past and present. These artists share their vision of starting a new through painting, photography, drawing, and sculpture.

Langley Outdoor Art Exhibition

The exhibition was very good, well attended. We were very lucky with the weather, just about five minutes of rain in the two days.

I met some very interesting people: visitors and other exhibitors. It was wonderful to see the variety of art in one place.

My work was well received and found people extremely interested in the method of printing the images on metal.

I was very pleased to sell two small pieces: Lock Gates (on the left) and St. Fagan's Forest (on the right)

It was my first outdoor exhibition, and I would say I learnt quite a lot. Some things I would definitely change, one being the method of displaying my work. But all in all it was a very good experience.

The description of the exhibition is as follows:

It is time again when the Langley Outdoor Art Exhibition is in the spotlight. Yes, we said 2006 was to be our fond farewell but we believe the LOAE is a vital part of the visual arts in Langley. Due to an overwhelming and glorious demand from the community we are hosting one more event. Melissa, Helen and Walter have worked tirelessly over ten years to bring Langley this exhibition showcasing quality and fascinating artworks. After this summer, it is unfortunately time to say adieu. The 60 artists that will be exhibiting are a handful of alumni, and a showcase of new artists.For those of you who are new and a run down memory lane here is a little history on the exhibition. The event has taken place every two years (we skipped 2008) at our ½ acre home in a park like setting. This is our sixth year. Since the first show, we have had over 130 artists participate. The concept is educational, displaying a range of visual arts and culture to the public. There has usually been no more than 2 artists exhibiting the same media of high quality work but this year there will be some overlap due to the demand of which artists are coming back. Artists are either emerging or have significant experience in their chosen techniques. It is an exciting time for all involved, sharing each other's work ethics and ideas, and meeting new people especially the curiosity of the public.

ZEBRACLUB, on 3102 Granville Street, Vancouver.

The five pieces were digital prints on metal, printed with direct UV inks.

The method of printing allows the metal to show through when ever there is white on the photograph.

The piece above is titled Corrugated Shed. It is 48" x 32" in size, the printing method adds to the undulation of
the corrugated metal the shed is constructed from.

Art and Music Show Granville Island

I had the pleasure of showing two pieces of my work at an Art - Music show on Saturday June 13th at The Carousel Theater, on Granville Island. One of these pieces can be seen at ON THE RISE ARTIST COLLECTIVE 2231 Granville Street, Vancouver until the 27th of June. The premise of the show is to showcase the work of local artists and musical perfomers.

There was some wonderful music to be enjoyed, fantastic performances that made a warm summer evening even better.

The backdrop for the music included two of my pieces, both on brushed metal.

Spring Is Here At Last

It is lovely to see the trees bursting into flower and leaf. The array of colours is wonderful, the pink of the cherry blossom, the glowing yellow of the bobbing daffodils along with the pale tender green of the new leaves on the trees.

I will be out tomorrow capturing the beauty of spring and adding them to this blog.

A visit to icy Shannon Falls, Squamish.

It was a beautiful sight the almost entirely frozen waterfall, just some water making its way down the 335 meters drop. Then below the falls the partially frozen Shannon Creek, with the rocks frozen in the ice.

Now and then the boom of ice braking off the falls, reminding me of the sound a glacier makes when a piece falls off.

I will have to make a return visit during the different seasons to record the falls and the change in flow of the water.

A new front page on Website

I hope you like the new look to my Web Site, www.annchamberlainphotographer.com I think the front page is more vibrant and pleasing to the eye.

I have also changed the "Latest" Album and am pleased with the new photographs, more to come. I particularly like this one of Burrard Bridge from Granville Island. I really like the clouds and reflections.

The other change is the "About" page. I always find it difficult to write about myself but I think this is the best so far.
